Lostprophets // Another Shot

I’d completely forgotten that the Lostprophets new album was released yesterday, presuming it had leaked when I saw it floating about online. That’s probably because Ian had said that there would be another single before the album in an interview with Zane Lowe, but that never happened, so I guess their plans changed.

I haven’t had the time to listen to the full album quite yet, but “Another Shot” is an instant highlight from what I’ve heard yet. With a tense, brooding intro, the track is a lot more mysterious than the singles we’ve heard so far. The song has a darker, more moody feel to it compared to the singles, with the verses being a little more mellow as well. The song is quite a bit more personal and emotional than both “Better Off Dead” and “Bring ‘Em Down”. Combined with an anthemic chorus, it’s this type of gut-wrenching track that the Lostprophets do best.

With lyrics of redemption and moving on from your past, “Another Shot” is an extremely relateable song, which serves as the perfect vehicle for getting rid of all your angst. Ian has that desperation in his voice that gives so many of the Lostprophets tracks that emotion to take them to the next level. Hopefully I’ll enjoy the rest of “Weapons” just as much as I’m liking what I’ve heard so far.
