Yasmin // 5 Minutes (Acoustic)

Yasmin gave us an acoustic performance of a new track ‘5 Minutes’ today, showcasing her ever improving live performance skills, as well as adding to what is shaping up to be an excellent discography already.

After ‘Light Up (The World)’ didn’t do as well as it deserved - charting at #50 in the UK, Yasmin has already moved on and is giving us new material. ‘5 Minutes’ deals with a harsh break up, as Yasmin wants one more minute to get the message through to her crappy boyfriend. Why any guy would treat Yasmin wrong I don’t know, but did she really need that length of time two say those two words to him?

Nevertheless, this is a great song which shows how Yasmin can make a song which relates easily to so many people. With her soft vocals letting a little heartbreak slip out from under that strong front, the track has a certain melancholy charm about it. The acoustic guitar gives it a sort of ending-things-in-a-cheap-motel atmosphere, which I think really suits the track lyrically as well. I pray that the studio version of this song makes Yasmin’s as yet untitled album, but until then I’ll sure enjoy this little beauty.
